Augmenting the company's industrial camera solutions portfolio, e-con Systems has introduced the See3CAM_11CUG, 1.3MP UVCi compliant colour USB 3.0 camera. Supporting standard Windows (DirectShow) and Linux (V4L2ii) software, the UVC compliant See3CAM cameras are "plug and play" on Windows and Linux with no additional device driver software required.

Based on Aptina‟s MT9M031 colour image sensor, the USB 3.0 camera is suitable for entry level machine vision applications, object detection/recognition (such as pharmaceutical capsule inspection and food/beverage sorting based on colours) and other high-speed image capture applications. An optically isolated external trigger input makes the camera suited for use in a variety of industrial automation and scientific applications.

With SuperSpeed USB 3.0 connectivity, the See3CAM_11CUG can capture images at 720p (HD) at 30fps, 1280x960 (Full Resolution) at 20fps, 640x480 (VGA) resolution at 60fps (Cropped) and 640x480 resolution at 30fps (with full FOV and binning). An on board ISP converts the RAW Bayer RGB data received from the sensor to the processed colour YUV2 image. This ISP also supports gain adjustments, manual exposure control and adjustments in White balance with individual RGB gains. The camera has an external flash LED strobe output and a CS-mount lens holder, and is also compatible with C-mount, CS-mount or even S-mount lenses.

As with any other UVC compliant webcam, it is simple to build applications with the See3CAM_11CUG: the camera implements DirectShow capture filter pins for both preview/capture and still image capture. The USB 3.0 camera enables still image capture to be triggered from PC software (user controlled), external switch (user controlled) and a trigger (external event controlled) signal from an external trigger source. Enabling customers to capture both fast-moving images and meet long exposure requirements, the sample camera application demonstrates each of these use cases alongside common camera controls such as preview, auto-exposure and manual exposure control from 111μs-1.45 seconds.

Ashok Babu, President, e-con Systems, commented: “With the See3CAM_11CUG our customers can leverage the built-in ISP of the camera to get a completely processed YUV output directly from the global shutter camera without any further image processing, along with other distinct advantages offered by the ISP. The See3CAM_11CUG will help our customers to develop industrial vision applications where object identification and recognition based on colour are the important requirements.”
