Expanding its portfolio of high quality, high resolution USB 3.0 cameras, Point Grey has introduced a 4.1MP global shutter CCD Grasshopper3 camera. The GS3-U3-41S4 models are based on the Sony ICX808, a 1/1.8" global shutter EXview HAD CCD II sensor featuring 3.1μm square pixels and capable of 2048x2048px resolution at 18 FPS.

Providing quantum efficiency of over 72%, the Sony ICX808 sensor has a unique square aspect ratio which makes it suitable for use in scientific applications, such as microscopy and ophthalmology, and industrial applications, such as AOI and electronics inspection.

The Grasshopper3 GS3-U3-41S4 camera ensures optimal performance and reliability with a proprietary USB 3.0 link layer and frame buffer-based architecture. An advanced image processing pipeline enables look up table, gamma correction, pixel binning and USB3 Vision support.

Michael Gibbons, Director of Sales and Marketing, Point Grey, commented: "We are excited to expand our Grasshopper3 USB3 Vision camera lineup with the latest sensor technology. Applications such as ophthalmology rely on a square aspect ratio and will therefore benefit from the full resolution of the Grasshopper3 GS3-U3-41S4 camera."

The Grasshopper3 GS3-U3-41S4 is available now, priced at $1,495 or €1,195.
