Claimed by the manufacturer to push the boundaries of ultra-low light detection, the ORCA II camera from Hamamatsu Photonics is suitable for applications including luminescence and low level fluorescence imaging, high resolution microscopy or semiconductor imaging, X-ray applications, neutron radiography and scintillator readout.

Featuring a 1MP back-thinned CCD, cooled down to -90°C, the ORCA II camera restricts dark current to 0.0012 electrons/pixel/second. This also provides very high quantum efficiency (QE) of greater than 90% across a 200-900nm spectrum.

Extremely long exposure times of up to 120 minutes allows even the faintest light levels to be detected. Programmable trigger signal outputs ensure precise measurement control and data capture.
