Global leader in high-performance digital cameras for both industrial and scientific applications, Point Grey, have announced the release of its new Spinnaker Software Development Kit (SDK) to simplify and accelerate the creation of new vision applications.

Spinnaker, which was developed alongside Point Grey’s new Blackfly S camera, is based on the industry-standard GenICam3 reference API and introduces a number of new features, options and opportunities:

  • The combination of Blackfly S camera and Spinnaker SDK enables more powerful automation and control with new capabilities such as image sequencer, chunk data, logic blocks and event channel.
  • Faster development of more reliable applications with sophisticated image diagnostics, memory management, debugging and logging tools.
  • Users can choose the familiarity and portability of the GenICam reference API or access exclusive Point Grey camera features via the QuickSpin static API.
  • As Point Grey improves Spinnaker, new features can be added to applications without upgrading the SDK library files, eliminating costly testing required to qualify new software versions.

The company is excited to leverage the maturity and industry-wide adoption of GenICam3 to provide customers with a familiar and future-proof programming interface commented Michael Gibbons, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “However, we will continue to support and develop our existing, IIDC-based FlyCapture2 SDK as we recognise many customers already have a significant investment in this library.”

Designed for the modern machine vision developer, Spinnaker runs on Windows 32-/64-bit 7, 8.1, and 10. Popular languages and software packages such as C, C++, C#, VB.NET, Visual Studio 2010, 2013, and 2015 are supported. Linux Ubuntu 32-/64-bit and ARM 32-/64-bit support are scheduled for later this year.
