  With its new iPhone X, Apple has invited customers to ‘Say hello to the future’. From the tech specs, it’s clear that next-gen devices are going to be reliant on OLED (organic light-emitting diode) displays. According to Steve Kelly (pictured), CEO of SmartKem, the shift to OLED for the iPhone X is symbolic of a much wider change in displays across the portable and wearable device industry.

LED flood lights illuminate high school stadium
As part of a full-scale field renovation, the Tenino Washington school district selected MaxLite StaxMax LED High Output Flood Lights to illuminate Beaver Stadium, the home turf of the high school football, soccer and track teams. The new LED lights will save the school district approximately 45,000kWh and $8,500 in energy and maintenance costs annually. In addition, the district secured a grant from TransAlta that offset 75% of the lighting project cost, resulting in a payback period of less than seven years.

The CLQ6A-TKW devices are the first individually addressable 1W RGBW LEDs in their class, opening new design possibilities for architectural lighting. Developer of LED technologies and manufacturer of solid-state lighting products, Plessey, has announced a partnership with Dutch alstroemeria grower Together2Grow, following a successful trial of its LED grow lights combined with existing high-pressure sodium (HPS) lighting in a hybrid installation. The four-month trial, managed by Maarten Klein, Plessey’s Head Agronomist, has been running since the end of November 2016 at Together2Grow, to assess the benefits of adding LED to existing HPS lighting compared to just using HPS lamps.

  According to new research from online electrical retailer reichelt, British companies are failing to prepare for the upcoming halogen light bulb ban in 2018, as 41% are choosing not to switch to the alternative LED lighting in the next year.
