Global provider of wireless and positioning modules and chips, u-blox, has announced that its SARA-N2 series of NB IoT (LTE Cat NB1) modules is enabling the Narrowband IoT (NB IoT) connected smart street lighting control system from Flashnet in Romania, inteliLIGHT. A pilot project is already deployed on the OTE (Telekom) network in Patras, Greece. With hundreds of existing projects deployed worldwide, InteliLIGHT’s smart street lighting remote management solution is a proven concept employing a range of communication protocols.

A discovery by two scientists at the Energy Department's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) could aid the development of next-generation semiconductor devices. The researchers, Kwangwook Park and Kirstin Alberi, experimented with integrating two dissimilar semiconductors into a heterostructure by using light to modify the interface between them.

PaaS connects over 28,000 smart street lights in London
The City of London and the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham will soon be home to Silver Spring Networks' Starfish platform-as-a-service (PaaS). This adds to the previously announced London deployment in the City of Westminster. Through urbancontrol, the newest company within the DW Windsor Group, Silver Spring’s Starfish is expected to connect approximately 12,000 smart street lights in the City of London and 15,500 smart street lights in the Borough of Barking and Dagenham.
