EVERLIGHT ELECTRONICS has introduced a reflector type photo interruptor, the ITR1502 series, which can sense an object and give signal response at an exceptionally long distance of 4mm at a speed of 20μs. This is in contrast to a usual distance of 0.5 to 1.0mm. Additionally, the cost-effective ITR1502 meets MSL3 standards for moisture sensitive SMD components.

Applications for the ITR series include paper feed and edge detection in printers, motor revolution detection in projectors and other non-contact sensing applications. It also has potential within the factory and in industrial automation applications.

The photo interrupter consists of an IRED and an NPN silicon phototransistor that provides non-contact sensing. The product operates with a standard wavelength of 940nm at VCE=2V and IF=4mA, the maximum current is 450μA. Its unique double molding manufacturing process, combining transfer and injection molding, makes the end product more firm and solid. This compact package, measuring 4.0x3.0x2.0mm, effectively blocks visible light and minimises false detection.

Samples are available on request and mass production is scheduled for Q2 2016.
