The latest compact photocoupler from Toshiba meets the data rate, isolation performance and space requirements of high-speed digital interfaces in industrial applications operating across extended temperature ranges. This latest logic IC coupler for industrial applications reduces power consumption and is compliant with the reinforced insulation class of international safety standards.
The TLP2962 single-channel photocoupler is supplied in a DIP8 package and is capable of typical data rates up to 15Mbps. Guaranteed creepage and clearance distances of 7mm and 8mm for the TLP2962 and the TLP2962F respectively ensure compliance with the reinforced insulation class of international safety standards. Minimum isolation voltage is rated at 5000Vrms. Target applications include factory automation systems, control devices and measurement equipment.

Toshiba’s new photocoupler is guaranteed for operation at temperatures from -40°C to 125°C and the device supports a wide supply voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V. As a result it is ideal for use in new low-voltage designs as well as existing systems built around 5V power schemes. A maximum threshold input current of just 5.0mA supports low-power operation. Depending on the application the TLP2962 can reduce current consumption by as much as 75% when compared with previous devices.

The TLP2962 is built around a GaAlAs infrared LED optically coupled to a high-gain, high-speed photodetector and features an inverter logic, open collector output. An internal Faraday shield provides a minimum guaranteed common mode transient immunity of ±20kV/µs.
