Ophir Photonics Group today announced StarLite, a new low cost laser power / energy meter that provides both digital and analog screen displays. A compact, handheld unit, StarLite displays a variety of beam measurements, including power, single shot energy, energy and frequency of high repetition rate lasers, and beam size. The meter provides a large 320x240 pixel display with 16mm digits for increased legibility, and monitors power from pW to many kW or energy from pJ to hundreds of Joules.
StarLite monitors power and energy for all Ophir thermopile, pyroelectric, and photodiode sensors. The meter can also monitor laser beam size and accurately track beam position to fractions of a mm when used with Ophir's BeamTrack, a unique series of thermal detectors that combine multiple functions in one device: power, energy, beam position, and beam size.

The user interface for StarLite allows selection of a digital power screen or an analog needle display. The digital screen can average measurements over selected periods of time, which is especially useful for unstable lasers. The analog needle display is designed for adjusting and maximizing laser power or energy.

StarLite's compact, handheld design features rubberized bumpers and an optimum angle kickstand. It can be operated from a rechargeable battery or a connected to an AC source. The brightly lit display allows illumination of the power meter in low light conditions. Like other Ophir smart displays – Nova II, Vega, and Juno – StarLite features a Smart Connector interface that automatically configures and calibrates the display when plugged into one of the company's measurement sensors.
