A 15-75mm, f/1.2 zoom lens has been announced by MKS Instruments, the Ophir LightIR is a new member of the LightIR family of lightweight, continuous zoom lenses. The LightIR 15-75mm f/1.2 was introduced at EUROSATORY 2018 and is a compact, thermal imaging lens optimised specifically for uncooled 10-12µm pixel size Long–Wave Infrared (LWIR) detectors.

The Ophir LightIR is designed for use in a wide range of reduced Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) applications including Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), aircraft vision systems, drones and handheld applications such as thermal goggles.

The newest LightIR product is a compact, high performance, motorised continuous zoom lens with a focal length of 15-75mm and at only 320g, it is also light weight. It maintains sharp focus over the entire zoom range. The mechanical/electrical interface assures easy integration into camera systems.

According to Yitzhak Raif, VP/GM, Ophir Optics Group: "Cameras are rapidly evolving to keep pace with the push for SWaP electronic systems in a wide range of applications, from unmanned aerial vehicles to lower burden electro-optical gear. The LightIR 15-75mm f/1.2 is the industry's first lightweight zoom lens designed specifically for VGA, 10-12µm FPA matrix detectors. This makes it ideal for UAS's, handheld devices, and other SWaP applications.”
