According to Yole Développement (Yole), the CCM industry is moving slowly towards the consolidation phase with significant technology changes and supply chain evolution. In 2016, this ecosystem showed ten companies beyond $1bn in revenue. Within the CIS market segment for CCM applications, the three main players are sharing 75% of the total market. The CCM industry revenue was $23.4bn in 2016 and is expecting to reach $46.8bn in 2022.

It is believed that 3D imaging, gas sensing and autofocus will fuel the Infra-Red (IR) light source market. The More than Moore market research and strategy consulting company, Yole Développement (Yole), has announced a $1.5bn opportunity in 2022 in multiple applications and potentially $3.8bn in 2027. “Some applications will generate large revenues and strong growth rates during the next five years,” explained Pars Mukish, Business Unit Manager at Yole.

The future of LEDs is promising

“The LED market is a complex but promising market,” said Pars Mukish, Business Unit Manager, LED, OLED and Sapphire at Yole Développement (Yole). In 2015, companies are not relying on more technical breakthroughs, except at the LED module level, where integration remains an important issue. “However, there is still overcapacity,” adds Mukish. “This is causing many changes in the supply chain, first at the chip level, then at the module/system level. The spin-off Royal Philips announced in July 2014 of its LED business, which grew from its acquisition of Lumileds in 2005, is one example.”
