A colour vision system for inspection of colour codes on ampules to detect deficient products and prevents cross-contamination has been announced, the EyeSens ColorRingCode (CRC). A characterisation with applied colour rings is for example sometimes used to prevent mix-ups with other products, when there is yet no label on the product. The hardware of the EyeSens ColorRingCode consists of the well-proofen EyeSens vision sensor. These sensors are available with integrated illumination and lens or with a C-Mount connection for individual lenses and lighting.

The software of the EyeSens CRC is based on the colour commands of the EyeVision image processing software. With those commands it can be checked if the colour rings on the ampules have the correct colour, are in the correct order, if the rings have the correct width and have the correct distance to each other. Also if the colour ring code has the correct length and also if there are disruptions in the code. Additionally there are software commands, which can inspect if the rings are missing or if they are complete and undamaged. In case one of the characteristics such as e.g. correct colour, presents, completeness and flawlessness is not provided, the system will raise an alarm. Especially with pharmaceutical products, the production is keen to have a 100% quality control. Due to the colour coding a precise control and a rejection of wrong ampules is possible. The vision sensor offers real colour evaluation for the inspection of up to 9,000 products per minute. An almost endless amount of rings can be captured and inspected, as the characteristic can be configured depending on the application. Additionally, as the colour image processing is based on the EyeVision software, the amount of detectable colours is unlimited.

The camera – the hardware – has three different resolutions available: 736x480, 1024x768, 1280x1024 pixels. It also has a frame rate of 60fps and a 1/3" CMOS sensor.

The command set – the software – is based on the EyeVision machine vision software, which offers drag-and-drop programming, with which the colour commands can be combined intuitive-self-explanatory to form an inspection program. Therefore no programming skills are necessary to work with the software. There are even more commands for this software and therefore the command set can be extended by activating some additional commands.

For example a EyeSens CRC (ColorRingCode) can easily be equipped with a DMC reader command. And so some extent the EyeSens vision sensor can be changed into some other vision sensor such as e.g. EyeSens ColorInspect or EyeSens QR, etc.

As part of a safe production process, it is important to ensure, in each individual production phase and above all in the case of products which have not yet been labeled, that products are not mixed up. EVT provides process inspection solutions, which can be integrated into all key stations of your equipment. In this way the entire production process is monitored to avoid such mix-ups.
