An advanced FTTH splicer, designed for single fibre, has been introduced by Fujikura Europe. Suitable for FTTX, data centre, LAN and Access Network applications, the 21S is claimed to be the world’s smallest and lightest active V-groove model.

To deliver improved splicing performance, the device features a moveable V-groove mechanism for active alignment. In addition to this mechanism, the 21S also features accurate splice loss estimation and real-time arc calibration functions. The splicer has a typical splice time of 9s  and tube-heating time of 30s.

Measuring 120x189x71.3mm, the device features a 4.7” TFT colour LCD monitor and a built in battery which enables 200 cycles of splice and tube-heating when fully charged.

“Our 21S splicer is an incredibly exciting product which allows customers to opt for a level of splicing in between the 12S and 70S,” said Neil Bessant, Fusion Splicer Divisional Manager, Fujikura Europe. “It is a unique product, in that it delivers high-quality splicing without a higher price tag.”
