The RIO ORION laser module builds upon the proven performance of the PLANEX product series. Besides the standard 1,550 and 1,064nm wavelengths, LASER COMPONENTS also offers this product range in ITU-T Grid and custom wavelengths. In addition to high reliability and robustness, the ORION module provides value with up to 20mW output power, very low RIN, and low phase noise at a narrow linewidth and high wavelength stability.

Its packaging is designed to achieve a highly integrated, self-contained module with a small form factor.

At the heart of the ORION module is a high-performance single frequency External Cavity Lasers (ECL) based on RIO’s proprietary PLANEX technology. It consists of a gain chip and a planar light wave circuit (PLC) with a Bragg grating.

These components form an extended laser resonator, which offers considerable advantages in addition to the extremely small line width - for example, low wavelength sensitivity to bias current and temperature.

These features make ORION a well suited semiconductor solution for applications that require high accuracy and resolution; e.g. Optical Parametric Oscillators (OPO), high resolution spectroscopy, LiDAR and other precision metrology applications.
