What are the damage thresholds of DOEs?

The diffractive optical elements (DOEs) from HOLO/OR are used to change the beam profile or for complex beam splitting, particularly for high power lasers. They consist of fused silica, sapphire and ZnSe substrates into which a grating structure is etched. The DOEs are then anti-reflection coated - similar to a laser optic.

The maximum laser power at which DOEs can be used has been a point of discussion, the question being whether the grating structure or the coating limited the damage threshold. Experience has shown that the coating does limit the damage threshold.

HOLO/OR now has proof that the structures do not have any effect on the damage threshold. Please contact us for the exact measurement results and further information.
