Harvard Engineering has announced that its LeafNut system has been chosen by Wirral Council to control and monitor its 7,500 lights. LeafNut, which will be installed by SSE alongside LED luminaires from Urbis Schreder, will allow the council to centrally control and monitor the whole network of LED lights and assess the performance of the network to achieve maximum efficiency, with minimal cost.

The latest lighting is being installed between 24th August 2015 and 31st March 2016, with the aim of helping the Council reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. This will also help the Council to comply with the Climate Change Act targets for the UK to reduce its emissions by 35% by 2020 and 80% by 2050, compared to 1990 levels.

Cllr Phil Davies, Council Leader, Wirral, said: “This is a major investment in the infrastructure of the borough and will help the council deliver on a number of pledges to Wirral residents between now and 2020.”

Russell Fletcher, European Sales and Marketing Director, Harvard Engineering, added: “We are really pleased that our LeafNut solution has been chosen by Wirral Council. LeafNut is providing customers around the world with an advanced, wireless central management system, a smart way for local authorities to achieve both significant energy savings and real flexibility in the remote control and monitoring of their street lighting assets.”

Over 100 local authorities around the world have installed LeafNut, including Transport for London and Westminster and many other overseas sites including Bargota, Spain and Chile, South America.
