OSRAM Opto Semiconductors has introduced the OSLON MX ECE and OSLON SX ECE LEDs – new, low-cost, high-power ceramic components designed for use in daytime running lights in the front light clusters of mid-range vehicles. These new LEDs represent a key new addition to OSRAM’s extensive automotive lighting portfolio, which consists of millions of LEDs currently in use in rear light clusters, brake lights and daytime running lights in vehicles on the road today.
As high-power ceramic components, the OSLON MX ECE and its lower-power sister component, the OSLON SX ECE, are positioned between OSRAM’s Advanced Power TopLED and the Golden DRAGON, supplementing the range in terms of both performance and price. Both of these new energy-efficient LEDs address the increasing acceptance of daytime running lights outside of the luxury and top-of-the-line markets.

Both of these new LEDs are compact – 3 x 3 mm2– and employ the latest ThinGan chip technology. The OSLON MX ECE LEDs are manufactured as 1 W components, provide a light output of 70 to 95 lm, and can be operated at temperatures up to 150°C. Manufacturers looking for a 0.5 W solution can choose the OSLON SX ECE, which has the same dimensions and thermal stability as the MX version with a light output of 40 to 60 lm. Their small dimensions enable both LEDs to be integrated into compact, low-profile designs.

Mike Godwin, Director of Visible LEDs at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, Inc. said, “Like all our automotive LEDs, the OSLON MX ECE and the OSLON SX ECE are tailor-made to meet the demands of the automotive industry. Both these ceramic components are ideal for daytime running light (DRL) applications. They can be installed in headlight systems or incorporated in fenders as individual lights.”

In addition to the two new models in the OSLON series, OSRAM offers a perfectly matched portfolio of LEDs for the automotive sector that includes light sources in various versions and performance classes to meet different customer requirements – from the Advanced Power TopLED for daytime running lights to the OSTAR Headlamp for low- and high-beam headlights. The OSRAM range fully covers the brightness range from 25 to 1000 lm.
