ERG SmartBridge LED backlighting solutions available from Ginsbury

Ginsbury, the specialist display distributor, has today announced the availability of SmartBridge, a LED backlighting solution from Endicott Research Group (ERG). Specifically designed for LCD panels that feature an integrated LED driver onboard, SmartBridge provides a simple and cost effective way to provide interconnectivity from a display controller or power supply to the LED backlight driver on a LCD module.

The ERG SmartBridge series offer ‘plug and play’ operation to enable control of the backlight driver, DC/DC conversion of voltage supplies and PWM generation for backlight dimming control. Traditional CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) backlights have always required a DC/AC inverter to drive the backlight. ERG’s SmartBridge is a small, discrete interface circuit board that aids the integration of a display panel, with integrated LED backlight driver, into an existing CCFL backlit LCD design.

Steve Varley, Product Manager, Ginsbury advised, “Until recently display manufacturers have been heavily invested in traditional CCFL backlights. The transition to more cost effective and reliable LED backlights is now widespread across the industry. ERG’s SmartBridge designs will make it easier for customers to optimise their backlight designs and simplify the migration from CCFL to LED backlights.”

The SmartBridge product line up consists of three products:
SBD4212F is specifically designed to use existing voltage supplies, Ground, Enable and control signals. The SmartBridge outputs the required panel voltage, Enable and a 255:1 PWM controller dimming signal to the OEM panel driver.

SBDC4213 includes a soft start feature and is designed for applications requiring a step-up conversion from a 5V DC supply to a 12V DC source. The SBDC4213F passes through both the Enable signal and Ground. It utilises the analogue control signal to generate a 255:1 PWM dimming signal for the OEM panel driver.

SBDC4227F has been designed without a dimming function for applications requiring a step-up conversion from a 5 Volt DC supply to a 12 Volt DC source. The SBDC4227F passes through both the Enable signal and Ground.

All three SmartBridge parts offer 5V or 12V options and include an integration harness for connection to the display panel.

All ERG SmartBridge products are available immediately from Ginsbury. ERG SmartBridge products are designed and manufactured in the USA, are RoHS compliant and supplied with a one year warranty. Custom footprints for OEM design projects are available on request.
