MKS Instruments has announced the Ophir 16kW High Power Laser Sensor, a compact sensor for measuring very high power lasers. The water-cooled thermal sensor measures powers from 100W to 16kW over the spectral range of 0.8µm to 2µm and 10.6µm. A relatively large, 55mm aperture is insensitive to beam size or angle of divergence.

The sensor delivers a fast, 3.5 sec response time. A deflecting cone and annular absorber can withstand high power densities to 10kW/cm2.

The 16K-W laser power sensor's water circuit is designed to reach approved water flow rates with lower pressure requirements. The sensor also features an over temperature sensor that triggers an LED indicator, audible alarm, and M8 three-connector interlock to protect the system from low water flow or flow stoppage.

All Ophir thermal sensors include a ‘Smart Connector’ interface that operates with the company's Centauri, StarBright, Vega, Nova II, and StarLite smart displays, and Juno and Juno+ compact USB PC interfaces. Choose between a variety of data display formats, including Digital with Bargraph, Line Plot, Pulse Chart, and Real Time Statistics.

The displays also feature sophisticated logging of power and energy, statistics, histograms, and more, as well as advanced math functions. The display is automatically configured and calibrated when plugged into one of the company's laser measurement heads.

The Ophir 16kW High Power Laser Sensor is available now.
