Provider of technologies that enable advanced processes, MKS Instruments, has announced the Ophir UAE family of OEM sensors that can be directly connected to an Ethernet bus. These Universal Adapter (UA) power sensors can be fully integrated into host Ethernet systems for local, remote, and long distance measurements, such as in material processing and IoT applications.

Designed for OEM users that want to control laser power measurements via their own software, the UAE sensors are equivalent to existing UA sensors with RS232 connection but with Ethernet connection instead. They work in conjunction with Ophir photodiode and thermal power measurement sensors, which measure from picowatts to tens of kilowatts, as well as single shot energy.

The UAE sensors support Telnet, UDP, and HTTP protocols. Installation and choice of IP address are simplified via the PC application supplied with the device. The software allows for quick and easy setup, and supports basic functionality, such as monitoring power and changing measurement scales.

Reuven Silverman, General Manager, Ophir Photonics, said: "Products like the UAE allow us to approach OEM solutions as an archetype or template that can be customised for specific applications. We start with the power level and sensor technology required for the application.

"Then we ask what environment they are working in and adjust the laser power sensor to meet particular needs, such as clean room requirements or network interfaces. The UAE means OEM laser power meters can become fully integrated into host Ethernet systems without the need for external Ethernet modules."
