Vishay announced the release of new red, amber, yellow, and white power SMD LEDs in the compact PLCC2 Plus package. The VLMx51 series offers high luminous flux and very low junction-to-ambient thermal resistance for a wide range of lighting applications.
Built on high-efficiency InGan and AllnGaP-on-silicon technology, the VLMR51, VLMK51, VLMY51, and VLMW51 devices offer high luminous flux from 8.5 lm to 30.6 lm and luminous intensity from 2,850 mcd to 9,750 mcd. The LEDs provide extremely low junction-to-ambient thermal resistance down to 100 K/W and power dissipation up to 738 mW, which in turn enables high drive currents up to 200 mA.

These values, when combined with the devices' compact 3.5-mm by 3.5-mm by 1.2-mm package outline, make the VLMx51 series an ideal choice for internal and exterior automotive lighting, signal and symbol illumination, decorative lighting, architectural lighting, backlighting, marker lights, traffic lights, and all general lighting applications.

For automotive applications, the LEDs released today are automotive qualified AEC-Q101. The VLMx51 devices feature a 60° angle of half-intensity, a luminous flux ratio per packing unit of < 1.6, and are categorized, per packing unit, for luminous flux and color.

The LEDs are compliant to RoHS directive 2002/95/EC, in accordance to WEEE 2002/96/EC, and are compatible with IR-reflow soldering profiles according to J-STD-020. The devices are preconditioned according to JEDEC Level 2a, and offer an ESD-withstand voltage of up to 2 kV (HBM) according to JESD22-A114-B.
