This low-cost high-power ceramic component is intended for the front light clusters of mid-range vehicles – mainly as daytime running lights. This new LED is an important addition to OSRAM’s extensive product portfolio for the automotive sector.
As a high-power ceramic component the OSLON MX ECE is positioned between the Advanced Power TOPLED and the Golden DRAGON. It supplements the range in terms of both performance and price. This energy-efficient LED with its new packaging technology is OSRAM’s response to the increasing acceptance of daytime running light outside the luxury and top-of-the-range markets. Peter Knittl, Director of Automotive Marketing LED at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors said: “Like all our automotive LEDs, the OSLON MX ECE and its less powerful sister the OSLON SX ECE are tailor-made to meet the demands of the automotive industry. Both these ceramic components are ideal for DRL applications. They can be installed in headlight systems or incorporated in fenders as individual lights.”

The small 3 x 3 mm2 LEDs are manufactured as 1 W components using the latest chip technology. They offer a light output of 70 to 95 lm and can be operated at temperatures up to 150°C. Manufacturers looking for a 0.5 W solution should choose the OSLON SX ECE. This has the same dimensions and thermal stability as the MX version and offers a light output of 40 to 60 lm. The small dimensions enable the LEDs to be integrated in small low-profile designs.

In addition to these ceramic components the perfectly matched portfolio of LEDs for the automotive sector includes light sources in various versions and performance classes to meet different customer requirements – from the Advanced Power TOPLED for daytime running light to the OSTAR Headlamp for dipped and high-beam headlights. The brightness range from 25 to 1000 lm is fully covered.
