Developer of LED technologies and horticultural grow lighting, Plessey, has announced that B4Hydrogrow, a new venture from Dutch lettuce grower B-Four Agro, will install Plessey’s new Hyperion 1750 micromole/s LED top-lights in its first greenhouse measuring 29,000m².

MIT researchers have designed an optical filter on a chip that can process optical signals from across an extremely wide spectrum of light at once, something never before available to integrated optics systems that process data using light. Optical fibres can 'feel' the materials around them
EPFL researchers have developed an optical fibre capable of detecting what sort of material or liquid they have come into contact with. Their research has been published in Nature Communications. In recent years optical fibres have served as sensors to detect changes in temperature, like a thermometer, and pressure, like an artificial nerve. This technique is particularly useful in structures such as bridges and gas pipelines.
