Surface-mounted LED doubles pixel density

The surface mountable Displix Oval is an LED developed by Osram Opto Semiconductors with oval light-radiating characteristicsfor large-screen video walls, petrol station price signs and digital road signs. Thanks to a compact housing measuring just 2.1 x 2.7 x 1.5 mm (including lens), almost twice as many LEDs can now be mounted on a board than with ordinary radial diodes, doubling both the pixel density and the resolution of displays.

Optical sensor simplifies wearable measurements

Designed for automatic fitness tracking, the SFH 7050 optical sensor has been introduced by Osram Opto Semiconductors. The sensor, which is suitable for smart watches and fitness armbands, simplifies personal heart rate or pulse rate measurements. To reduce power consumption and increase signal quality, the sensor contains green, red and infrared light emitting diodes.

Osram introduces multi-chip laser diode for projectors

Osram Opto Semiconductors has introduced the first compact laser multi-chip package. The new PLPM4 450 module can pack up to 20 blue laser chips into a single "butterfly" package for projection applications. Instead of taking the laborious approach and constructing a light source from individual laser diodes, it is now possible to reduce the complexity of laser projectors significantly.
