Thermal imaging testing prevents failures
In the Northern hemisphere, November through to March is a particularly testing time for any energy supplier. Electrical load is at its highest and the likelihood of a breakdown is far greater so the quick and efficient detection of faulty power lines and connections is vital. For many utility companies thermal imaging has significantly boosted their ability for preventing failures.
Laser module offers precise positioning over long distances
With its FLEXPOINT Long Range Line Module, LASER COMPONENTS has developed a highly-precise positioning tool for long distances. Even at 50m, the line is only 4m long and can be adjusted to line widths of a few millimetres with an easy-to-use focusing device. The FLEXPOINT LR-L module is available with red (660nm) or green (520nm) lines.
LED emitters add candela and lumen density punch
Availability of the Lumileds LUXEON CZ optically advanced portfolio of colour and white LED emitters has been announced by RS Components. Designed to deliver a significant lighting punch in terms of candela and lumen density, the high-density portfolio offers an optimal LED solution for a range of lighting market sectors including: architecture and entertainment; colour-tuneable lamps; and speciality lighting use for emergency vehicles.
Upgrade to app brings easier commissioning of smart lighting
Casambi has issued an update for its smart lighting platform app. The latest version makes it quicker to commission lighting systems and introduces features, including enhanced access to multiple networks and better control over functions such as dimming and daylight harvesting. Part of a Bluetooth Low Energy lighting control platform, the software includes updates for both the app itself – which is used to commission and control a Cas...
Infrared detectors suitable for fit and forget applications
LASER COMPONENTS has introduced industrial grade thermal detectors, from their research and production facility in Arizona. These detectors work on the principle that photons incident on the polycrystalline thin film, promote electrons across the bandgap increasing the conductivity of the material, in turn decreasing the resistance of the substance.
Automated testing of multi-fibre connectors
LASER COMPONENTS has recommended the MPO switch from VIAVI Solutions for quick and easy OTDR testing of MPO multi-fibre connectors. In combination with an optical reflectometer and a base unit such as the MTS-4000 V2, it ensures that all twelve fibres of the MPO connector are tested for their attenuation, as it automatically switches from one to the other. Thus, the fibres no longer have to be tested individually using fanout cables.
EcoPro lamp range versatile LED work lights
Lumileds has launched the Philips EcoPro range of LED work lights. Equipped with high-quality LEDs and hands-free features, the EcoPro range also provides the bright light (6,500K) needed to get the job done, making the lamps suitable for everyday use in automotive workshops. The Philips EcoPro50 provides a portable rechargeable projector lamp, which lights up large dark areas when working on vehicles.
Squeezing light into nanoscale devices and circuits
As electronic devices and circuits shrink into the nanoscale, the ability to transfer data on a chip, at low power with little energy loss, is becoming a critical challenge. Over the past decade, squeezing light into tiny devices and circuits has been a major goal of nanophotonics researchers. Electronic oscillations at the surface of metals, known as surface plasmon polaritons or plasmons for short, have become an intense area of focus.
COB LEDs boast high thermal performance
The newly launched Lumileds Gen-4 Luxeon COB LEDs which enable smaller, simpler luminaires to deliver bright and vibrant lighting are in stock at distributor RS Components. With efficacy of up to 170lm/W, the industry’s smallest LES, and package thermal resistance up to four times lower than other COB LEDs, lighting designers using Luxeon Gen-4 LEDs can create new styles featuring denser arrays, smaller optics, and simplified construction.
How Guangzhou's sparkle reflects in China's Pearl River
Signify has announced that it completed the illumination of 24 buildings in Guangzhou's central business district along the Pearl River area in China. The large-scale connected LED lighting project includes façade lighting and animations projected onto buildings. Home to a population of over 14 million, Guangzhou is one of the most populated and fastest growing cities in the world.
