Expanding the company's optoelectronics portfolio, Vishay have introduced the VSMY98545 850nm infrared (IR) emitter. Based on SurfLight surface emitter chip technology, the emitter provides high drive current capability, high radiant intensity, and high optical power while providing low thermal resistivity.
Enabling designers to reduce the component count and improve performance, the VSMY98545 can replace multiple standard SMD devices thanks to its extremely high drive current capabilities and optical power to 660mW at 1A. The IR emitter is suited for a variety of applications, including IR illumination in CCTV, gaming, and road cash systems, in addition to long-range proximity applications such as presence detection for wake-up functions in office equipment.
Featuring an integrated lens and a 42x42mm emitter chip (supporting a low thermal resistance of 10K/W junction-to-pin), the VSMY98545 enables high drive currents up to 1A and pulses up to 5A. Supporting a ±45° angle of half intensity, the integrated lens enables ultra-high radiant intensity of 350mW/sr at 1A and 1600mW/sr at 5A (pulses). This is more than double the radiant intensity of devices without lenses.
Operating over a temperature range from -40 to +95°C, the VSMY98545 features fast switching speeds down to 15ns and low forward voltages down to 1.8V at 1A. With a moisture sensitivity level of 3 in accordance with J-STD-020, the IR emitter ensures a shelf life of 168 hours. The device is RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, Vishay Green and supports lead-free reflow soldering.
With lead times of 8-10 weeks for larger orders, the VSMY98545 IR emitter from Vishay is available now for sampling and in production quantities.
